OAuth Connector

At a glance

Configure a connector in 4 steps using OAuth. When the connector is startable, Ontologie opens an authorization popup to obtain the necessary permissions from the provider.

Before you start

  • Access to an Ontologie workspace
  • Active account on the external service (Google, HubSpot, Shopify, etc.)
  • Browser allowing popups for Ontologie

Steps

Step 1 — Choose the connector and start authorization

From Live Data > Connectors, click the desired OAuth connector.

If the wizard shows Connect, click it. A popup opens for you to sign in to the external service and grant the requested permissions.

If the wizard shows manual OAuth fields such as refresh_token, this connector does not yet have an Ontologie-managed popup flow. Fill the fields from your provider console or ask your administrator to enable a provider strategy.

Screenshots for this page will be added in a future update.

Good to know
Some providers require specific scopes (e.g., Google: drive.readonly, HubSpot: contacts, deals). Ontologie configures the required scopes automatically.

Step 2 — Test the connection

After authorization, Ontologie automatically tests the connection.

If the test fails, verify that you granted all the requested permissions.

Common errors

ErrorLikely causeSolution
Popup blockedBrowser blocks popupsAllow popups for Ontologie in your browser settings.
Permissions deniedScopes not grantedRestart the authorization and accept all requested permissions.
Token expiredOAuth session expiredRestart the authorization to obtain a new token.

Step 3 — Select data streams

After a successful test, Ontologie discovers the available streams from your source. Check the streams you want to synchronize.

Tip
Start with one or two streams, then add more if needed. Each stream generates a tab in the source-linked spreadsheet.

Select the target entity in your ontology to receive the synchronized data.

Tip
You can also link the source later from the Sources tab of the entity in the ontology.

Pre-configured credentials vs BYO

Some connectors use OAuth credentials pre-configured by Ontologie: you click Authorize and the OAuth flow starts without any additional configuration. This is the case for most popular connectors (Google Sheets, HubSpot, Shopify, etc.).

Other connectors require BYO (Bring Your Own) credentials. In this case, you must provide your own client_id and client_secret obtained from the provider's developer console. Ontologie guides you through entering these credentials before starting the authorization.

How to tell?
The wizard clearly indicates whether the connector is pre-configured or requires your own credentials. Follow the instructions displayed on screen.

Redirect URI and refresh token

When an OAuth popup is available, the exact Redirect URI is displayed in the wizard and can be copied. Configure that URL in the provider OAuth application before starting authorization.

Do not manually enter refresh_token when the wizard offers an OAuth popup: it is obtained automatically after authorization. The field remains visible only for manual OAuth connectors when no popup strategy is available.

Microsoft Outlook

For Outlook, Ontologie uses a Microsoft Graph strategy. The wizard shows the connection button, requested scopes, and the Redirect URI to configure in the Microsoft app. The refresh_token is generated by OAuth and sent to Airbyte without being requested as a user field.

Expected outcome

Active connector
Synchronization starts and data appears in the source-linked spreadsheet of the target entity.
